At Our Lady Star of the Sea, the student is the centre of all learning. We take great pride in our approach to improving student outcomes in learning, within a respectful and nurturing environment. We consider our approach to be “The Star Way”, where we remain faithful to our school vision.

We have a strong emphasis on differentiation for all students. We use evidence based pedagogy, including a number of science of learning principles, to ensure students are learning at their zone of proximal development. This occurs through a supportive Hub at each year level, where all students are the responsibility of all teachers in the Hub. Within this environment we are able to support extending and enabling activities, learning sprints, intervention and social and emotional development.

We aim to develop students’ agency in learning, so all students have the skills and dispositions to make positive and proactive decisions about their learning. We also recognise and understand the importance of teamwork and provide opportunities to collaborate with others in their learning. We recognise the contemporary world our students live in and the importance for engaging them to be active and critical citizens in a technological world.

Our Lady Star of the Sea school is strategically aligned with the MACS Vision for Instruction, Flourishing Learners position Statement. We also embrace a curriculum based on the Victorian Curriculum F–10. The Victorian Curriculum sets out what every student should learn during their first eleven years of schooling. The curriculum is the common set of knowledge and skills required by students for lifelong learning, social development and active and informed citizenship. The Victorian Curriculum F–10 incorporates the Australian Curriculum and reflects Victorian priorities and standards.
