Specialist Program

Our Lady Star of the Sea school offers students opportunities to participate in Specialist Programs each week.

Health & Physicial Education

Physical Education involves mastering movement skills, concepts, and strategies that empower students to engage confidently, competently, and creatively in various physical activities. It serves as a cornerstone for lifelong participation in physical activities and improved performance. Students cultivate proficiency in movement skills and activities, grasp fundamental movement concepts, and gain insights into the scientific principles governing human motion. Through this process, they develop an appreciation for the importance of physical activity, outdoor recreation and sports.

The Performing Arts incorporating drama, music and movement

The Performing Arts program spans two years and encompasses dance, music, and drama. In dance, students use movement to express, question, and celebrate human experiences across emotional, spiritual, and physical realms. Drama involves exploring personal, cultural, and social aspects through role-playing that both challenges and entertains. Students engage as creators, performers, and critical analysts of stories and perspectives. Music cultivates creativity and expression, enhancing students’ abilities to manipulate, interpret, and share sound as listeners, composers, and performers, fostering appreciation for diverse cultural and historical contexts.

Digital and Design Technologies

The Digital Technologies curriculum empowers students to develop confidence and creativity in crafting digital solutions by applying information systems and strategic problem-solving approaches. They gain extensive knowledge of digital systems, data, and information processes, preparing them to actively address present and future challenges. The curriculum emphasizes practical experiences where students explore how information systems can systematically and innovatively convert data into digital solutions, employing computational, design, and systems thinking methodologies.

STEM

STEM integrates learning across Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to cultivate critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. Science involves hands-on exploration of natural phenomena, fostering curiosity. At Star of the Sea we have a strong emphasis on Sustainability. Technology focuses on using digital tools to solve problems and enhance learning. Engineering encourages designing, building, and testing solutions to real-world challenges, promoting innovation. Mathematics emphasizes applying mathematical concepts in practical contexts, enhancing logical reasoning.

Visual Arts

All students at Our Lady Star of the Sea engage in regular Visual Art lessons. At Grade Two the students begin attending specialist Visual Art lessons where they build confidence in creative expression and develop skills and techniques across a wide variety of mediums. The students are provided with the opportunity to explore, respond, and to create a variety of artworks. Students are taught skills in the use of tools, materials, processes and techniques.  Visual Arts provides opportunities for the students to build self confidence, express themselves, problem solve and communicate creatively.

Our Lady Star of the Sea hosts a biennial Art Show where students showcase their artwork while bringing the community together to celebrate our creative achievements.

Languages Program

Indonesian Language Learning

At Our Lady Star of the Sea, we are all co-learners of Indonesian. Using the Teachers as Co-Learners approach includes explicit language instruction and daily conversational practice, incorporating Auslan sign language gestures. This contemporary model values creating opportunities for spontaneous oral language use and functional dialogue in our classrooms.  With the support of our Language Assistant, we immerse our students in fast, frequent and fun sessions that focus on developing and improving spoken Indonesian in the classroom.
